Wine Tour Help

Hello,
My fiance and I will be spending part of our honeymoon for two nghts in Siena followed by two additional nights at an agriturismo called Fonte Bertusi south of Siena about an hour. We both very much would like to take a wine tour while in the area, and I'm wondering if it would be better to try to arrange for a tour from Siena, or near our agriturismo (we will have a rental car during this time). Any advice and specific tour suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well you will certainly be in one of the best wine regions in the world. Pienza is not far from Montepulciano and Montalcino. Home of Vino Nobile and Brunello, respectively. We are staying at a winery (boutique hotel) in Montalcino in September and they are not only giving us the tour of their operations and tastings, but have recommended other places to visit as well. Have you inquired with your agriturismo as to what they would recommend. They seem to often have a friend of a friend or a cousin that owns a winery and they can set you in the right direction. Also, try tripadvisor for wine tours in the Val d'Orcia.

With the freedom of the car for two days, you probably won't need an organized tour. Taking local advice from your hosts always makes sense. I recommend a detailed driving map for the region (old-fashioned paper version) versus a map for the whole country, which won't show the smaller roads. The "Strada del Vino" office in Montepulciano provides wine road maps (as well as tours). In Siena, you could also check out tasting sessions at the [Tuscan Wine School](www.tuscanwineschool.com).
