Wine tour day trip from Florence

Has anyone taken a wine tour day trip from Florence? Do you recommend any particular wine tour companies/tour guides? We are open, and probably prefer, a group tour. Thank you!

I would highly recommend you visit Castello di Verrazzano. We visited this wonderful winery and took the tour and then thoroughly enjoyed the 4 course wine tasting lunch. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We left Florence in the morning on a bus and we arrived in about 45 or so at Verrazzano. Fillipo was our tour guide and he was awesome. The food was delicious, wine was very, very good and the scenery was breath taking. Check out their website. I would love to return for another visit one day. Enjoy your trip.

I have a question for the two of you who loved the wine tour. Is this a place frequented by lots of tour buses? Can two couples enjoy their drive there or is it pretty touristy?

Thanks for the feedback! We were looking for more of an all inclusive tour - bus/van pickup in Florence, travel to wine region, visit multiple wineries/vinyards, lunch, and transportation back to Florence. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answering your question about the tour buses, there were no "tour" buses there during our visit. The dining room maybe had 3 different "groups" enjoying the wine tasting lunch after their tour, however, we were not crowded at all. Everyone was just enjoying themselves so much. Just be sure if you take the bus from Florence, that you've made arrangements for staff of the winery to be at the "welcome center" to take you to the top of the hill for a wonderful experience. I've recommended this excursion to several people and I believe they have found it to be very worth their time. After your trip, I'd love to know if you decided to visit Verrazzano.

I did not see tour buses either. We did have a group of about 20 German Tourists. The dining area is very homey and they have an open pit that they cook their ribs..YUMO..The people in our group and the other group were so much fun..but I do believe it is the whole atmosphere that made everyone so jolly. I laughed so much and hated when the night ended. We stayed at their B&B just down the road and it was wonderful too. You will love it !!

Hi Stacey,
I took a Chianti tour through CAF tours and it was amazing. I thought the value for the money was very good. It was about an 8 hour tour leaving at about 2:00 (which still gives you the morning to enjoy sightseeing or shopping in Florence) and returns about 10:30. It includes lots of wine tasting with great snacks (appetizers) at a beautiful old castle/winery, stops in Greve, Castellina in Chianti which are beautiful little wine towns and finally a delicious dinner in the last small town called San Donato. It was one of the best days I had in Italy last year! In fact this summer I'm planning to book this tour again!
