Wine Tasting Chianti / Siena

We plan on doing some tastings. Our home base will be around Greve (and we will have a car). What's the protocol? From what I'm gathering, it looks like we need to make reservations wherever we want to go? Looking for pro tips please.

(The owner of our rental will make recommendations as far as where to visit but they don't make reservations)

We just left our villa in Panzano and followed little signs down country roads. We found many excellent wines at tastings at small wineries, little English spoken, no reservations ever.

Since you'll be staying near Greve, check out doing a food and wine tasting at Castello di Verrazzano. You could do either a lunch or a dinner. Check to see what is available when you will be there.

While tastings are nice, you get a much better idea when you can pair a wine with the food it is meant to be served with. We did the tour and then lunch food and wine tasting, then later in the week (we were staying there), we had dinner. Look at the menu. The food was fantastic!

When we did lunch, the winery owner and his staff were tasting a new vintage and the owner asked our opinion. At dinner, there were two groups having their Christmas party. One was a group of tour bus drivers. They invited us to join them and we had a great time with our newfound Italian friends!
