At first I thought I wanted to visit a bunch of wineries, but really I want to taste different wines and maybe buy/ship bottles back home. Is there a wine bar in either of these towns that would fit the bill? Thank you!
I had a great wine tasting in Montepulciano. It was a restaurant at the top of town with excellent views off the hilltop from the patio. La Bottega del Nobile. We also had a great lunch/wine tasting at Santa Giulia winery (close by, make reservations) on my Rick Steves tour and continue to buy a case from them every year. Enjoy yourself!
There's a great wine bar/wine shop in Montepulciano, I believe it is called Borgo Divino. You can try lots and lots of different Tuscan wines, they have a great cruvinet set up that keeps the wine fresh. We ordered a couple of cases of mixed wines and they arrived shortly after we returned home, in great condition. Much more comfortable than stopping at different wineries and then feeling bad if you don't buy...........One of our favorite finds here was the producer Dei, whose wines we are fortunate to find not too far from us at home now.
Also in Montepulciano there are stores for some of the wineries (Talosa, Poliziano), so if you know you like these wines, it's convenient to order.
