We'll be in Italy from mid Sept to mid Oct and looking for recommendations for wine festivals. Tuscany is always a great consideration but we are open to other areas as well probably north or Rome. Driving and wine festivals seem mutually exclusive but we're not apposed to driving and staying in a town with a recommended festival. Would also appreciate any websites with information, since I'm not finding a lot of information
Might be a few days too early for your mid-September arrival, but the Greve in Chianti wine festival is September 7-10 this year.
This one came up in my trip planning: sagradelluvamarino.com, 35 min. by direct train from Rome, 30 September - 2 October, 2017.
Hi W
There's a "festa dell' uva e dell vino" (festival of grapes and wine) in the town of Bardolino, on lago di garda, September 28 to October 2, 2017, near Verona. We attended it a few years ago, had a fabulous time. Wine, food, music, dancing, food, wine, great people, crafts, fireworks on the lake, restaurants, cafes, strolling along, fabulous views. Rented a room at a hotel on the sunday, paid 15 euros and received a wine glass necklace type holder, and just wandered. Stopped at all the food booths, yummy! Bardolino wine is served everywhere, picnic tables to sit and people watch. The fireworks is sunday night over the lake. Bring cash euros. You can look at gardalake.com or gardasee.de (click english) to get an idea. You'll have a fun time and can also drive around to see some towns around the lake.

It's not all wine festivals, but given the awesomeness of the wines in the region, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be abundant wine involved in all of them.
My husband and I attended Vino al Vino in Panzano last fall. The event is held during the third weekend in September. It's not as large as the wine festival in Greve held earlier in September, but we thoroughly enjoyed both the festival and Panzano.
Thanks everyone for the excellent recommendations
