Wine Bars in Italy

I've seen a lot about wine bars and their tasty food in researching my trip to Italy. However, no indication as to whether or not kids are welcome. I'll be traveling with my husband parents and two sons (ages 10 and 12). Does anyone know, or have you seen kids, about the wine bars?

Kids are generally fine. "Wine bars" aren't a uniform type of establishment though. It sounds like you've been reading about cichetti bars in Venice which have arrays of food served on small plates. Kids are welcome in those places. Throughout most of Italy, wine is just part of the offering at various types of cafes. They don't really equate to "bars" as we think of them in the U.S.

So long answer to your short question. Your boys won't be excluded.

Yes! That was exactly what I was referring to. I thought it would be fun to check one or two of them out while we were there. But, since I've never taken my kids to Europe before, I've never really taken the time to notice what places did and did not have children. Thank you!

We take our daughter with us everywhere that we go. She is 20 months old. She had been to bars, pubs, cafes...basically anywhere. It isn't a big deal.

Children are welcome at enotecas and pretty much everywhere. Feel free to bring them with.

Great! Thank you everyone. I just know that I didn't notice either time I was in England, but, according to a friend, they don't allow children in the bars there. So, I thought I'd better double check on Italy! Thanks!

I think Doug has it right. When we were in Italy we often sat next to people who had their dogs in their laps in restaurants. I'd hate to think they'd ban the boys!

Too funny! Yes, France was also okay with such things. But, they like dogs more than kids... ha!
