Will Italy move USA to green zone?

Since France just moved the US to the green zone. Is Italy going to do the same? Be really nice not to do a Covid test before the flight and when you land if you are vaccinated. If you are not vaccinated testing is still required.

That would be wonderful if it happens! I just purchased a ticket to the Stresa Music Festival for a concert the end of August.

@edryer4356: Waiting anxiously for news on this as well. Booked PDX-SFO-FRA-BLQ (Bologna) on Sept 14 outbound on United back in December; the alternatives if I have to switch are really ugly on any of United, American, or Delta. Switching from United outbound will end up costing a bunch more bucks, and for any switch I still would have to get myself and bike to BLQ.

We are headed to Italy in October this year and than flying to France from Naples for the 2nd part of our trip. I’m super happy now that we don’t need a test to fly to France as I was worried since our last stay in Italy is Positano. And it being a small town I didn’t want to have to scramble to find a PCR or Antigen test. I can see Italy being a little shy on this since they were hit the hardest but hopefully they are not far behind.

On June 18 there will be a new Italian decree and also the EU officials will be meeting to discuss that possibility.

Stay tuned.

So far, Italy has not recognized vaccination as being pertinent for entry. Rather than "green lists" Italy groups countries into categories "A" (San Marino and Vatican); "B" (EU, Schengen, and UK countries with very low risk) "C" (All other EU Schengen, and UK Countries and territories), "D" Other Countries with "Low Risk", and then "E"..rest of the world at higher risk. The Covid flights are a special exemption for some countries from List D to avoid quarantine.

All this roughly goes along with EU agreements, but is different in structure from other EU countries.

At this point, Italy would need to update List D entry requirements and/or Covid flight requirements.

The good news is they look at requirements about every two weeks or so, and are due for an update, especially with the EU activity in the last week. Tourism pressure is intense, so it will happen soon.

Best source for information, is to go to the source: https://www.salute.gov.it/portale/nuovocoronavirus/dettaglioContenutiNuovoCoronavirus.jsp?lingua=english&id=5412&area=nuovoCoronavirus&menu=vuoto

I too have tickets to Italy in early September (Moved from September 2020, then April 2021), though we did prudently opt for a direct flight from the US to avoid any complicating issues with a European stop.

We're on a United covid-tested flight to Rome, leaving July 8. Fingers crossed, things continue to improve. Getting a PCR test no more than 48 hours before the flight and having the results before we head to the airport is causing me to lose sleep. Our local Walgreen's says 2 - 5 days! Yikes!

@Evelyn, hopefully you won’t have to worry about it. But the PCR test is 72hrs before your flight or you can get the antigen 48hrs before your flight and the antigen you should get back in a few hours. Just an FYI

Don't want to seem rude, but has anyone just filled the questionnaire on the official site putting the USA as country of departure? It seems that things are not changing before July 30.

We know that the current disposition in Italy are valid until July 30, however there is discussion at the EU level about authorizing vaccinated people from the US to travel to Europe without the need of having 3 tests and self-isolation. I think a recommendation should come out formally tomorrow, June 18, however the recommendation is non binding and the individual EU member States' governments will in the end decide how to proceed and when.

The site I linked will tell you if the the Italian Government has decided to accept the EU recommendation before the end of July or not.

This from Italian media...

"The Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza , has launched a new ordinance which introduces a 5-day quarantine - with the obligation of a swab - for those arriving in Italy from Great Britain .

«I have signed a new ordinance», wrote the Minister of Health on Facebook, «which: 1) allows entry from European Union countries and from the United States, Canada and Japan with the requirements of the Green Certificate; 2) extends the measures to ban entry from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; 3) introduces a 5-day quarantine with the obligation of a swab for those coming from Great Britain »."

Just reading quickly here... so does your post @edryer4356 mean that if you fly from France to the US, you do not need to test if you can prove you are fully vaccinated? If that is the case, I might switch our flights from Italy to France for the return.
Thank you.
ps, I will also watch postings for info coming out tomorrow re: Italy, as per other posts.

Hey Momo,
I’m not sure on the France to US I haven’t looked at that. But from Italy to France you just need to be vaccinated and show proof without needing a covid test.

Christine is right.

It's not the outgoing country for return that has the requirement — it's a U.S. requirement to provide a negative test before departing from anywhere to re-enter the United States.

And, the answer is YES. Italy has moved the U.S. to its green list, as Eric reports above.

from the corriere della sera article, translated by google translate, '...The requirements of the "green certificate" mentioned by the minister are three: to be able to prove that you have tested negative for a swab within the previous 48 hours upon arrival in the country of destination; being able to prove that they have been cured of Covid; be able to prove that they have been vaccinated with at least a 15-day dose...'.

question is how does an american traveller go about proving and acquiring the green certificate. i am booked on covid tested flight next week and will be getting 3 tests before being allowed into italy without quarantine. i will have my cdc and state vaccination documents with me but those don't count as of now. i am going by what it says on delta's website.

If you are on a COVID tested flight you don’t need to show proof of vaccination
Bring your actual CDC card anyway but it’s not required for those flights

The above info is for those arriving by other means and wanting to skip quarantine

Am definitely following. I’m book on Air France/Delta Chicago-Paris-Florence for the end of September. I did not book a covid flight hoping that it won’t be necessary by then. What confuses me is I need a covid flight flying in from US. But what about connecting in Paris? Do I just follow French requirements and then get accepted into Italy without a covid flight???? I’m hoping this will be simpler by the fall
