I am planning a trip to the Dolomites for mid-September of 2025. Just realized that the Jubilee is next year. Our trip will be mainly in Austria and the Czech Republic, so our only time in Italy will be in the Dolomites. Do you have any idea if the Dolomites will be much more crowded than usual? We visited about 10 years ago and loved it. I was really looking forward to going back, but I hate crowds. Thanks for your insight!
So, I heard Rick and 2 of his Italy tour guides discuss this recently. They think Rome will definitely be more crowded because of the Jubilee but that other areas farther from Rome will likely not see much of an increase over the usual tourist numbers they experience.
Thank you both for your replies. Good to know what Rick said. We visited last time in July and didn’t feel like it was very busy. I was hoping that by going in September next year we could avoid some crowds. I won’t be booking anything until I can see flight information, so maybe I’ll get a better idea what this year was like.
Unless a lot of Romans decide to escape the invasions of the pilgrims in their city, the Jubilee should not affect the Dolomites.
There are a lot of Germans and Austrians who like to take holidays around the Oktoberfest period (last week of September and first week of October) and many descend to the Südtirol (Alto Adige in Italian), but not more than they usually do every year in that period.
Roberto, Thank you so much! I have relied on your advice so many times on this website. I appreciate it! That is great news. I was getting really excited looking into the region again, so I am glad I can go ahead and keep planning. We will be gone by the 15th or so, so will not be affected by the Octoberfest holiday goers.
