Will DItalia planes be flying in late October

Heard d'Italia air is going bankrupt. Was planning on using them on Oct 24 to get from Naples to Palermo and on Oct29 to get from Palermo to Rome. What's happening withis airlines and is there another option or is ferry or train the only option for that far out.

Do you mean Alitalia? I don't find anything on either DItalia or D'Italia when I do a Google search.

It's Windjet that might go bankrupt, not Alitalia. Story here

Windjet has gone bust and stopped flying altogether. There is no concerning risk for Alitalia at the moment. It has seen scarier days back in 2008 before it was privatized.

Thx. Any suggestions on hotel locations in Rome that are easy to get to and from airport? Prefer 4 or 5 star and don't want to spend hours on transportation to get from airport to hotel or at end of stay from airport back to airport. Using AItalia only for earlier stop from Sicily to Rome.

Connie, For the trip from Palermo to Rome, you could also consider using EasyJet. I've always had a good experience flying with them, and I'm sure they'll be less expensive than Alitalia. For example, they currenlty have tickets as low as €18.49 listed for October 24th. There will of course be some "fees" on top of that. The quickest way to travel from FCO into Rome is to use the Leonardo Express (train). The trip is about 35 minutes and it's not affected by traffic. You can buy tickets at the airport, either from a ticket office or from automated Kiosks. As it's a Regionale train, DON'T forget to validate! I normally prefer to stay in the Termini area, and use Hotels listed in the Guidebook. I'm sure there are some four or five star properties there, but I'd have to check. Happy travels!

Thx Ken. Does the tran mentioned go to the Termini area or do you have to switch trains?

Connie, The Leonardo Express goes direct from FCO to Roma Termini (the largest station). It arrives on Track (Binario) 26 or one of the other "far" tracks, so it will take you at least 8 minutes to walk to the front of the station. Again, DON'T forget to validate your ticket in the yellow machine, or you may face hefty fines, which will be collected on the spot! I believe there are other trains that may go to other stations in Rome, so be sure you board the Leonardo Express. Check the excellent Ron In Rome website for information on the trains. If you want a Taxi to take you to your Hotel, there will be LOTS of them waiting outside the front door. Simply walk straight ahead with your back to the tracks, and you'll exit the front door. Cheers!
