Are there free WiFi zones in Rome? I know that you have to provide a passport to sign on at an internet hotspot or cafe, and your hotel already has your passport if you pay for the service there, but I can't figure out to whom you would provide proof of identity for free WiFi. Anyone done it?
Since they will ask you for your passport, there is no Free WiFi anymore. I personally tried from my cellphone.
And this the official wifi site:
wi-fi.org
or
http://wi-fi.jiwire.com/
There are free wifi sites around Rome, but that doesn't mean they're not secure. Most, if not all, will require that you be a customer, so coffee shops or restaurants are your best bet. When you wish access, you'll have to hand over your passport info to get the security key to enter the network.
