Hi this may be a dumb question but how reliable is WiFi in Italy (Rome, sorrento, Venice and Florence )? Is it smarter to get a data package or are there other smart options ? I’m sure I’ll need to look things up while walking around so I’m not sure wifi will always work. Any advice ?
I sincerely appreciate any advice.

Use the Search function, filter by Type and Date
First check your current plan to see what sort of International plan they offer
We use Verizon and if/ when we need a data plan we go with theirs
Wifi is fine all throughout Italy
We actually don’t usually bother with data plan and just use free wifi while in hotel
We don’t need to make phone calls, we can text/email etc
If you're out about you can't rely on wifi as that has a limited range, and you'll need to connect to numerous different providers.
That leaves you with mobile data, either a roaming service from your home operator or an alternative SIM.
You can buy a physical SIM once you're in Italy or get an eSIM - I've used this provider with great success: https://www.getnomad.app/
I’ve used my TELUS travel plan ($16/day!), a couple of trips using Aíralo e-sim, then I discovered Freedom Mobile! They offer a plan for $70/month that provides phone, text and 60 gigs of data in 92 countries! I’ve been using it full time for a year and a half and have had no trouble. Used it in Greece, France, and Mexico with no problems.
