wifi (other than hotels)

I will mostly be staying in convents/monasteries so I won't have wifi through my lodging. I'd welcome suggestions for the best ways to find wifi in Florence, Milan, and Rome. (Paying for wifi access would be fine; I just don't want to spend a lot of time hunting for it.) Do chain eateries typically offer wifi (eg, Starbucks, McDonalds...)? And do internet cafes and internet shops have wifi? (Sorry, technology mystifies me.) Thanks.

I should add that in Florence I found free wifi in many cafes. You either have to get the password from the waiter/waitress/barista, or sometimes they have it posted on the wall someplace. Lots of wifi in Florence. On our last day there we grabbed a quick bite at McDonald's by the train station Santa Maria Novella. They have wifi there also, but it involved a registration process on a web site. It wasn't like McDonald's in the States where you just agree to some terms and conditions and then are connected. Much more complex.

First, there are no Starbucks in Italy. Many place like McDonalds will have free wifi. Sometimes the TI. Just turn on your computer and see what pops up.
