Why is train from Florence to Rome coming up as a 37 hour journey? Thanks! I figured it out!

I’m in the beginning of planning and looking at train times using the rail planner app. It comes up as a 37+ hour journey. What am I doing wrong? Perhaps train isn’t the best way to travel? I have tried different days/times and it’s still saying that long.

ETA: I figured it out, thanks! I’m looking way too far out and schedules aren’t out that far.

Probably because you are looking at dates to far in advance? What date are you looking at?

Train planners will try to find a route for you not matter what, even it is a nonsensical one. And if they are working from incomplete schedules you can get odd results.

Just a tip: When planning train rides just use tomorrow as a date. You can safely assume that schedules will be similar in the future. Train schedules do not change a lot over time (because the infrastructure sets the schedule).

I am curious what rail planner app you are using that came up with that result.

And did you by chance enter “Florence” instead of “Firenze”? There is a “Florence
‘ in Staffordshire, England and maybe that accounts for the error.

There are fast trains and not so fast. I once bought a fast ticket, Florence to Rome, and got on the wrong train and ended up playing poker with a Moldovan couple for about 8 hours. I'm good, so I only lost my shirt on the trip. The moral, take what you got and enjoy. It's a holiday after all.
