Why couldn't the Euro be this low in the summer!!!

I just wanted to comment on the fact that the Euro was so high on our 3 week trip to Italy that we had to really make an effort to keep costs down... if only it had been 1.25 instead of 1.66 or whatever it was!!! That being said, I CANNOT wait to have the chance to go to Italy again. It is truly a magical place and I miss it so much. Happy Trails!

I was in europe also in Aug. I could have saved $200 per wk w/ todays xchg. Gee I hope the stock mkt gets better and xcgh stays the same so I can go back in 2009.

Be glad you weren't in England in June of this year. The rate was 2.07 pound to the dollar. Our "budget" was way over but..after having our airline ticket what could we do but go and enjoy the trip. Now it's the airfare that's making people's budget go over. I just read that as of December 2008 British Airways will be charging around $500 and up surcharge, so if you are planning a trip and can purchase a ticket by next week, you'd be ahead.

The pound exchange is almost the same as what the euro was this summer. I have a feeling the exchange rates will fix themselves in a couple months.

Sasha, having spend almost the whole month of July in Europe I can say I totally feel your pain,, I almost never click on thread about " the euro is down again" as its like rubbing salt in a wound,, but that said, I loved my trip and never regret for a moment taking it.

You could always book a tour or cruise for next summer and take advantage of the Euro rate and low expectations for numbers of visitors.

Sorry, if I had to choose between a euro at $1.25 and a healthier world economy (and a healthier 401K); I'll take the $1.60 euro any day.
