Why cant I buy train tickets for summer travel in Italy from TRENITALIA?

Right now on Trenitalia's website you cannot buy the express (faster train service) tickets. A shopping cart appears crossed out, not allowing you to buy the train tickets.

Does anyone know why this happens? You can easily buy tickets for May or early June. But not late June, and July...

I am looking for July 4th from Rome to Florence for instance, and you cannot buy the express tickets. All that it offers you is the longest train routes possible. Instead of taking a 1h36m train ride, Trenitalia is only showing that you can purchase tickets for the routes that are 3h56m long and etc. This is the same for Travel anywhere it Italy it appears for that time frame.

Why is this happening does anyone have answers!

Thanks so much!!

I believe there's a schedule change in early June, and tickets on express trains for the period after the change are not available as early as they would usually be.

Last day that Freccia train tickets are for sale is Saturday June 13. Sunday June 14 is the start of the semiannual European wide schedule adjustment. So I am sure that is what this is all about. Just keep checking back periodically, they'll show up for sale eventually.

Italo's schedule goes blank after June 13 as well.

Thanks for the replies...is anyone aware if the schedules that are posted will be what they are? Or is it possible the train times can/will change?

They usually don't change a whole lot. If anything, you might see more trains put on.

It's called "timetable change" because the timetable changes. The few trains you can already see today will run (otherwise why would they upload those trains?), but Trenitalia will gradually add more and more trains starting from late March / early April.

First the not-subsidized trains (aka the Freccia-something high speed ones), then the long distance Intercity trains paid by central government and last the local Regionales paid by the regions.

Most Europeans buy Long distance train tickets a couple of weeks in advance, not 6 months early. Most don't even know there is a timetable change because they never "stumble" upon it while checking the schedules.
