How many days, what time of the year, where do you plan to begin, and from where do you plan to fly home. Your post is like asking how high is up.

Buon viaggio,

Joann,

I happened to notice that you posted in another thread that you plan to spend a month, from mid-Oct. to mid-Nov.

Assume that even if some folks read all your posts, they won't remember all the information, and they might not even remember that it was all from you.

Do include the relevant information in each of your new posts.

Thanks for the info. As I am still in the planing stage, I wanted to know which rotation is easiest. Also what can be done as day trips. I can fly into and out of any city. My dates are Oct 20/ Nov 20.

Pisa can be a day trip from Florence. Pompeii and Amalfi can be done as day trips from Sorrento. Pompeii can be done from Rome - but it is a very long day. Your other cities and towns all deserve a stay of their own. I've not been to Padua or Milan so I can't comment there.

I would suggest flying open jaws into Venice and back from Rome (can also be done in reverse). See Venice (day trip to Padua - 45 minutes), Milan, Cinque Terre, Florence (day trip to Pisa - 1 hour), Sorrento (day trips to Pompeii - 30 minutes and Amalfi town - just over 1 hour) and end in Rome. This route minimizes backtracking and changing hotels. The train trip between Florence and Sorrento is long (4.5-6 hours), but I find that a fair trade off becasue I like to be in my departure city the last few days of a trip. You could also stop for the day in Padua on your way from Venice to Milan and/or Pisa on your way from Cinque Terre to Florence rather than doing them as a day trips. Trains are best means of travel for all segments except day trip to Amalfi, where you will use the SITA bus. If you decide to fly into Rome and back from Venice, I find it best to do Sorrento first, then Rome, Florence, etc, although starting in Rome might be better if you tend to arrive severely jet lagged.
