We will be arriving by bus from Ljubljana but the Flixbus website has a couple of Venice locations to choose from. We'll be staying a few days in Venice before moving to Germany to catch some football matches.

Where are you staying in Venice? If the options are Venice Mestre and Venice (Tronchetto) and you're staying in Venice proper, you want the Tronchetto location. Mestre is on the mainland.

Absolutely agree! Any suggestions are appreciated. Last time we were there, we rented an apartment and found that to be very nice. Open to other ideas.

We were on the VFR Tour last October and the tour hotel in Venice was the Pensione Guerrato, near the Rialto Mercato vaporetto stop.

Pensione Guerrato is a good place to stay near the Rialto Bridge. In addition to the hotel, they also have an apartment nearby.
If you didn't go to Murano and Burano last trip, try to do so this time. Get an early start, have lunch on Murano, visit Burano, and still be back in Venice proper by four or five in the afternoon.
