One hour bus drive from Bolzano to Carezza lake. Then back to Bolzano
Train ride from Verona to Venice. Back to Verona.
Train ride from Verona to Garda lake (sirmione??) and back Verona.
What eould you choose based on this time of year and best usage of day.

How many and what ages of 'kids'.?
Early October. Kids ages 15, 11, 7. I asked regarding one available day.
This is one day from 10 days of trip. 3 nights will be in Ortisei (with cable cars from there), 2 days gardaland park and few days in cities/villages like Mantova, Parma, Verona.
How would you grade them from best option to 'non best'?
Venice is pretty unique
Kids love Venice!
My personal vote would be for Venice. It is a wonderful and unique city. Although I do not have or travel with kids. so that might color your decision. It is a very easy train ride from Verona and back. Riding the vaporetto in Venice is very fun, but expensive. Also consider that in October the Acqua alta season starts. I have not been to the city when it is flooding, but it does not look fun.
