Which towns to visit in Tuscany- homebase Siena

My husband and I will be in Siena for 3 days. Which towns do you reccomend we see? We want to tour some of the wineries, will there be several tours that we can chose from once we are there?

You didn't say if you were renting a car or not, but here's a couple suggestions if you are have a car. We stayed in Cortona and drove to Sienna for a day. Not quite and hour and we loved Cortona; a great little hill town to visit. The drive was pretty much a straight shot, and an easy drive. Montepulciano was another great walled city to visit. They had several wineries in the town where were tasted and in one had a cool cellar to wander through. I'd guess it would be within 45 minutes or closer to Siena. You could do both towns in 1 day, have lunch in one, and dinner in the other. We found driving around Tuscany relatively easy, and GPS worked like a charm.

If you are relying on bus from Siena then San Gimi, Montepulciano and Pienza are perfect.

Montalcino - smaller than Montepulciano, famous for Brunello wine. Also Todi, Monteriggione, Arezzo.

Thank you!! We will rent a car. Should we rent in advance? Or can we rent it once we get to Siena? We would like to visit wineries, cheese, olive oil and truffle farms.

Most definitely reserve your car ahead of time or you have no idea what kind of pricing you will get. Shop around and try all the agencies then book with the cheapest.

For wine tours try the Tuscan Wine School in Siena: www.tuscanwineschool.com. They have several guides and do small group trips as well as custom tours. They also offer short-2 hour-classes in Italian wines that are worthwhile. They drive on the wine tours, so you don't have to! And they know where you will get the best experiences on your visits.
