My family of 5 will be in Florence for 2 days. We want to see the countryside but just for a few hours. Which town would you suggest that's a very close bus ride so that in total we would be back to Florence in about 4 hours? How do we get there? We would probably just want to stroll around the town, get lunch and wine, and head back to the city.

The closest would be Fiesole, on a hill above Florence; it's so close that to get there, you take a local Florence city bus. Other close choices include Pisa, Lucca, and Siena, each about an hour away (so, if you really only had 4 hours, you would barely have time for lunch before you had to head back to Florence).
Read about these places and choose for yourself which one is best suited for your goals.

I agree that Fiesole is your best choice for 4 hours. If you could I would go to Pisa or Lucca if you could find a few more hours.
