Which Rome walking tour company is best?

Hello all - my family will be going to Rome in March and I am at the point where I would like to pre-book some popular tours such us the early opening small tour of Sistine chapel,Museums and St Peter’s Basilica; Also a small tour of colliseum that includes the underground and also the Fourm and Palentine hill. There are so many tour companies to choose from! Ive heard that The Roman guy is good and few others listed in Rick Steve’s book -but there is a tour from Viator that better fits our schedule for the underground Collisem tour. Has anyone used them and liked them ? What about City wonders. Please advise ! Grazie !

Viator is a consolidator and reseller of tours so it is a dice roll as to who you might get from Viator. It is impossible to say who is the best tour company because it is completely dependent on the tour guide. Over the years we have had good luck with TI recommended tours and have use Angel tours a couple of times and were very pleased. I think most tours are good and some are very good.

We have used Walks of Italy for the types of tours you are interested in. Knowledgeable guides, and small groups. We only had 8 in our group and it was perfect. We would definately use them again. Great reviews as well! Prego.

Caren - thanks for your wishes ! As per the recommendations on this site, I signed up with City Wonders for the early tour of the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums, and St Peters Basilica - they seem to be an ”official tour company with the Vatican”. I also heard the lines to the Batican can be very long and the Sistine Chapel and museums get very crowded later in the day. I booked an underground tour of Colliseum, Palentine hill - with Walks of Italy - as their time was more convenient. And still working on finalizing one or 2 others and using the Rick Steves audio guides for some other locations - download the Rick Steves Audio Europe app on your smartphone). I will let you know how it goes ! And wishing you happy planning and a good trip as well!

We used the Roman Guy for the Privileged Entrance Vatican / Sistine Chapel tour and enjoyed it very much. The guide had a genuine enthusiasm.
