Which phone card to buy?

Is there a specific phone card that people have used with good results? In 2009, we had a difficult time using the Telecom card with public pay phones. It was hard to get through without being cut off. It also used our time VERY quickly. We did not have the same problem in 2006. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of that card.

Jeanine, times have changed. Pay phones are harder to find; everybody uses cell phones now. On our trip this last June. We took our cell phone from home and signed up for the "overseas rate"; $1.99minute. All US cell phone providers offer some sort of "reduced rate"?! for overseas calls. We used this for emergency phone calls to/from home. Then we had a cell phone that we plopped in a EU phone chip, bought some pre-paid minutes at a EU phone/electonics store, had them teach us how to navigate it, and used it for inter EU calls. (Lots of these on EBay) Many people use their laptop/ smart phone and call for free using Skype.

There are also sites that rent phones for European travel. We're thinking of using rebelfone, but haven't pulled the trigger yet so can't really recommend it. Good luck.
