which one-- Lake Como's Villa del Balbianello or Villa Carlotta?

My husband and I are heading to Italy next week. Been many times and spent a week at lake garda and surrounds but first time to Lake Como. Upon arrival we are heading to Varenna for 3 nights. If we only visit one villa, which would you recommend?

I only passed by Villa Carlotta on the ferry and the grounds looked nice as we past. We took the ferry to Villa del Balbianello that day. We took the Villa tour when we where there. We had a little time and wandered around the property while we waited. The villa itself was last used by Guido Monzino who was an explorer. There is a lot of artifacts from his expeditions inside the villa to everest and the poles that was nice to see. Most of the rooms are left as they were when he last used them. I liked all the explorer stuff inside the villa. Also the outside of the property is amazing, and they were setting up for a wedding that night so some parts we couldn't see. We hiked there from the Ferry Dock, and then took the little water taxi. It was a nice hike from town around the point to the villa.
