Trying to decide which of the Cinque Terre is the best to stay and if anyone knows of a great hotel/B&B to stay there. I was orginally thinking of Monterosso. I would prefer not to have to walk up lots of stairs if possible.
Vernazza was wonderful to stay in. Don't stay in the square. It is very noisey. I would stay in the green rooms near the Il Pirate restaurant. Try to find it online to see pictures. It is called Camere Fontana Vecchia I think.
If you really don't like stairs you may not enjoy CT at all. Monterosso will be your best bet because a lot of the town is close to water level. Even Monterosso has stairs and part of the fun is to see very old fishing villages built into the hills with no cars and hike the trail between villages.
If stairs and uphill walking are a problem, your activities will be very restricted in the CT.
Thanks to you all for the info. I had better get in shape then! I was hoping to find a hotel without too many stairs so I wouldn't have to carry the luggage up them. I may stick with Monterosso for that reason and just enjoy the rest with hiking, walking and climbing. Have any of you stayed at the Albergo Margerhita in Monterosso?
Thanks again,
A.
Hotel Steno is great in Monterosso but it does have lots of stairs. Try Pasquale, it is on the beach in Monterosso and I think it is owned by the Hotel Steno people. Look in Rick Steves book. Also the "newer" part of Monterosso, close to the train station might do well for you. Again, check Rick Steves book. Any place in Cinque Terre will have steps, but they are worth it! It is absolutely beautiful!!!!
