Which makes more sense: stopping in Agrigento or Cefalu?

On our transfer from Siracusa to Palermo , where we are spending our last 4 nights, we have thought of stopping and spending time in either Agrigento or Cefalu. Both are doable from Palermo either as a full day excursion ((Agrigento) or Cefalu (an hour train ride). After seeing Valley of the kings, or spending the day in Cefalu, our transfer would take us to our Palermo hotel. Thanks for your help!

I have never been to Agrigento but I have been to Cefalù and Cefalù is a place to eat canolis that taste better there than here and where you can enjoy al fresco dining over-looking the coast while watching the sunset. Cefalù is a place where the elderly men still dress for their early evening passiggiata. Cefalù offers a beautiful, memorable setting for when you want to take a break.

Either is very good but Agrigento is a one of a kind Temple ruins experience. I would opt for that. Also if you get a chance in that area visit Castelmare del Golfo for a boat tour with spectacular views!!!

Cefalu is a lovely town, but Valley of the Temples will knock your socks off. Sounds like someone is handling your transportation? If yes, then Agrigento for sure. If you’re driving yourself, then I’d say Agrigento en route to Palermo is too much in one day. It is long drive for one day.

I think you're asking what to do on your transfer day, not which of the two side-trips you should choose. If you've already decided to go to both Cefalu and Agrigento, I'd consider how easy each would be to visit independently. The tougher one I'd make part of the transfer day as long as that will provide enough time at the stopover point.

Cefalu is easy by train. I believe Agrigento's more challenging to do on your own (I didn't go there), so I'd take advantage of the opportunity to use the transfer to get there and on to Palermo--assuming that will give you enough time at Agrigento.
