Which lake is the best to spend a few days seeing, Lake Como, or Lake Garda?

Most people posting here go to Lake Como and stay in the mid-lake area. Varenna is especially popular here. However, Lake Garda also has its enthusiasts.

Camille, My choice would be Lago di Como as I really like that area and always enjoy a few days in Varenna. It's easily accessible from Milan by train. You could also consider Lago Maggiore and Stresa, which would allow an easy day trip to Locarno (Switzerland) via the scenic Cento Valli Railway. Happy travels!

Ken...are you recommending staying in Varenna while at Lake Como? Is is easy to get to Switzerland and Lake Maggiore from there....we will not have a car.
Some websites suggest staying in the town of Como.....what is your opinion/recommendation?
