Which hotel would you choose in Tuscany during winter?

We have 3 nights in Tuscany this end of January. We are currently booked at Relais La Chiusa in Montefollonico countryside and Locanda San Francesco smack dab in Montepulciano. Both places look lovely and have similarly stellar reviews.

Can someone who's been in Tuscany in winter share whether 1 location is better than the other?
I have no idea how easy it is to find restaurant, or how difficult the drive is. Any other consideration appreciated too. I need information. Was just in Venice and lots of restaurants are open but lots were closed till January 23.

I am pretty sure we will return to Tuscany again not in winter, so this will not be our only trip there.

Thank you as always.

I'd prefer to stay in town (Montepulciano) since the relais is in a very small hamlet and the only restaurant is probably their own.
The Relais however has easy parking in premises, while the Locanda SF is inside the ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato) and you may not be authorized to drive inside, which means you'll have to leave your vehicle outside the city walls and walk. But you should check with the hotel about their parking arrangements. Maybe they have some arrangements and they can get the authorization from the City to get you inside the ZTL. You must check first, before you attempt to drive inside the ZTL or you'll get ticketed.
Be aware that it is mandatory to carry chains or snow tires in practically all of Tuscany Nov-Apr, therefore make sure you have snow chains in your trunk (request them from the rental agency)

The Locanda in Montepulciano wrote back and said we can enter the ztl. so I think we will stay there this time.

Thank you all.
