which hill town

We will be leaving CT sept 25. That is a Sunday. We are going to stop at pisa and see the tower, my mom has always wanted to see it. And then a hill town on our way to florence. So we only have from say noonish to see a town and get to florence hopefully by 6-7ish. We were thinking Lucca, but I was wondering if you all have suggestions of another choice especially with it being a Sunday. Thank you

Lucca is anything but a hilltown. It's flat, flat, flat. But other than that, it certainly fits your bill for a location right on the way.

I haven't been to Lucca but have a close friend who used to live there and loves it. Otherwise you could look at Cortona or Arezzo. Keep in mind that on Sundays, nothing is open in the morning and even in the afternoon most shops are closed. This won't affect you with seeing the tower in Pisa, but just remember this when thinking about what you want to do in the towns.

I agree with Michael Lucca is the perfect stop-off between Pisa and Florence. A beautiful town and well worth exploring, and I wouldn't hold the fact that it isn't hilly against it! If you want to see hills, climb to the top of Torre Guingi (it's the one with oak trees growing on top) and check out the view.
