My wife and I have 3 nights in Sorrento in July. Do you have any recommendations on lodging? Our ideal would be:
1. quiet, or at least a quiet side not on a noisy street
2. within walking distance of restaurants, shops, etc (we won't have a car and don't want to have to bus everywhere)
3. AC would be nice.
4. Pool would be nice.
5. Don't need 5-star elegance but above average quality.
Thanks for your opinions!
We loved our stay at Il Nido (www.ilnido.it). It's located at the top of Sorrento with amazing views of the sea. There is free shuttle service to the train/port & center of Sorrento - it only takes a couple minutes. The staff is wonderful - friendly and willing to answer any questions. They helped us plan a great daytrip to Ischia.
Ambasciatori gets my vote. We were there last July as well. We drove into Sorrento and stayed four days. We walked everywhere which was great exercise from all of the great food about town. The Ambasciatori has all that you are looking for and more. Check out their website.
I vote for the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. It's right on the cliffs above the sea, beautiful gardens, patios, pool, sea-bathing platform, excellent food. We didn't have a car either. We took a taxi from the train station since we had luggage, but on all our other journies out we just walked. Beautiful property.
Hi Dave,
My vote goes to Il Nido

I would like to also recommend Il Nido for your stay in Sorrento. The hotel is very nice, great view, very good resturant, and a real deal with the dollar so low in value. This is a great place. The fact that it is not in town is not bad as the run a van back and forth hourly. It is made up by the view.
