Where/when to pre-purchase tickets

I was unaware that I should have purchased Domus Aurea tickets from re-sellers and lost my opportunity to have tickets. It got me thinking, what else might I miss. This AM I purchased Doria Pamphilj and Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini tickets. We would also like to visit the complex of National Roman Museums and the Museo Central del Risorgimento. I am assuming with those two I do not need to reserve. Also, may I say, re-sellers are making it difficult and placing tickets out of the hands of many!
