Where to visit outside of Rome?

We are flying in and out of Rome in June, renting a car and heading right to Todi for a wedding for 4 days, and then have 8 more nights. We are not actually visiting Rome this trip, we've already been. We are traveling with a 2 and 4 year old. The last 4-5 nights we are planning to stay in Sorrento and do day trips from there. Where should we stay for the middle 3-4 nights? We've already been to Orvieto. Should we stay in Assisi, or will it feel similar to Todi? What about Lake Bracciano, is there enough to do for 3 nights? Any other location between Umbria and Amalfi to see/stay for 3 nights? Thank you!

Having a car in Sorrento sounds like a huge headache to me. Where do you want to take day trips? Driving the Amalfi Coast in June isn't recommended - it's hard enough in off-season when there's hardly any traffic on the road.

Thank you for your response, but you did not actually answer my question. I'm not asking about anything in Sorrento. I'm looking for recommendations of where to stay for a few days in between Todi and Sorrento. Thank you.

Assisi is good, as is Cortona.

Take a look at Montefalco, Spoleto, and if you want larger, Perugia

All nice Umbrian towns near Todi.

I like Spello, which is close to Assisi, and also Trevi, along the same train line so presumably along the same highway as well.

Montefalco is one of my favorite places.

Just a note that strollers are almost unusable at places like Pompeii, because of the ancient Roman paving! Be prepared with alternatives. Because you have been to Europe before, you must already know that many stairways and cliff-views are not as "protected" or as toddler-proof as they are regulated to be in the United States.
