Where to stop on the way from Venice to Rome via train?

We have 2 nights and one day to stop on the way to Rome from Venice via train. We have 2 kids ages 4 &6. We would like to go to Lake Como or Cinque Terre, any suggestions?

Thanks Steve. I was looking at the map before posting the question and even though Como is better if Milan was a base, maybe I was hoping travel would not take that long, and CT is a dream (as is Como and I was trying to squeeze it in). Maybe wishful thinking! I think we will just need to make a separate trip. We have to head back to Rome to fly back home.
