Where to stay night before cruise

We are flying into Rome (CIA) from Holland on Sunday, May 22nd, arriving late afternoon, and our cruise leaves from Civitavecchia the next day. I am wondering where or at least which area we should stay in that would be fairly convenient to both yet allow us to have a nice evening in Rome. Also, what is the best way to get there from CIA and to the ship the next day? Any restaurant or activity suggestions in the area? Thank you!

Civitav.... is about an hour or so from depending on the train. We have taken a number of cruises out of Civitav.... We stay in the Termini - generally Hotel Sonya but have also used Aberdeen but it is a couple of blocks further from Termini. Some restaurants in the area so it is convenient. If you are using CIA, take the bus to Termini and walk a couple of blocks to the hotel. Next day take the train to Civit..... It is basically a commuter train that runs three to four times an hour. Some trains are express and will make the trip in 45 mins. Others are slower and take an hour and fifteen. Either way it is easy. From the Civitav... train station probably will see your ship. From the station it is a quarter mile or so walk to the port entrance. From there a shuttle bus will take you to your ship. See RoninRome.com for a very detailed description of how to get to Civit..
