Where to stay - near Lucca/Pisa

Hi! We are headed to Italy for my 40th bday and trying to find a spot to stay for one of our weeks there. We have a decent sized group, so looking for:

  • Space: Somewhere with six bedrooms
    • Walkability: Near enough to walk into town, so we aren't too far out in the country. Far enough to feel peaceful, close enough to explore a bit by food. -Trains: We will have cars, but hope to rely on the main train lines to take some day trips.

Any suggestions on towns near Luca/Pisa or really near Siena, Florence - we are quite literally all over the map. I don't know much about the smaller towns so would love suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Rachel and welcome to the forum.

Use this to see the towns between Siena and Chiusi that are on or very near the train line.

https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Siena/Chiusi

Tap the train icon, then time & # of stops and it brings up the towns.

You can do the same for Lucca-Pisa using rome2rio.

Something that large would need to be an Agriturismo (farmhouse converted to villa) or villa. However those are rarely within walking distance from a town. You could find an apartment or multiple apartments, but those are generally inside town. Also, if you stay in town with multiple cars, accommodations with car access and parking needs to be taken into consideration (that is never an issue in out of town villas or Agriturismo.

I suggest to use Google Maps. Zoom in on an area, then search for hotels or Agriturismo. I wouldn’t worry about trains. You can drive to destinations.

hey hey rachelle
happy 40th and how fun to celebrate in italy with friends and family.
when are you planning this adventure? with your need of 6 bedrooms, is this 6 couples that want a double bed each or are kids involved that twin beds are okay and exact number of people with city tax charged per person/per day, how many bathrooms for that many?
check vrbo.com (dates, guests) read reviews, fine print, cost and fees with have total of stay, pictures say alot), parking area. airbnb.com, appartmentslucca.com may need to rent two near each other. like you say see how far away from transportation/town, usually one week stays.
how many cars? FYI make sure you read the rules and signs for italian driving, all drivers need to get an IDP, coincides with your drivers license, can get at AAA/CAA for about $25 and 2 passport size photos and receive same day.

when you research and find something come back and ask the forum, they will give you good bad and uglyt.
