If you are in great shape and traveling light, try Gianni Franzi. There are many steps to get up to it but the view and hotel are worth it if you ask me.

Not sure how many of you there are but if you are in need of a two bedroom apartment, I would highly recommend La Marina Rooms.

We stayed at Camere Giuliano last Oct. Giuliano and Michelle were wonderful! Check out Trip Advisor..they were voted #1 for Vernazza. You can read reviews and see pictures. It was great to get away from the center of town to our own secluded spot. Can't say enough good about the place and people.

I would highly recommend against staying at Gianni Franzi. It sounded great on paper, but when we arrived we were very disappointed. This hotel was by far the worst part of our trip to Italy.

There were bed bugs in the sheets that chewed on my wife's legs, mold in the refrigerator, a view only of a narrow alley, noise from the alley, church bells every 30 minutes from 8am to 5pm, poor insulation, no TV, precipitous steps up to the apartment door, and a hostess, Marissa, with a frigid attitude. What a most inhospitable place to stay!

We wanted to check out fifteen minutes early because we thought we would miss our train. I met Marissa at the door in the rain, and she refused to let me check out. I had to go back at 8am.

By the way, they would only accept cash (Can you imagine why?), so we had to carry the room fee with us for several days. (As it turned out Vernazza had an ATM.)

The feeling I had when we arrived in Vernazza was the Cinque Terre was a big tourist trap. The local pizzeria in Vernazza by the marina had a picture of the proprietor with Rick Steves.

Hike the trail but skip the lovers' lane grafitti. It's the best thing you can do there.

I thought Gianni Franzi was perfectly fine. Other then the 250 stairs to get to our room from street level.

Memo Rooms were great. It's on the main street one flight up, but I didn't find it too noisy. Enrica only accepts reservations by phone. Very informal - when are you arriving, how many nights and what's your name? I think she asks that you to call about a week in advance of arrival to reconfirm. Check Rick's guidebook for details.

Brandy - http://www.nerinarooms.it/
Located directly on The harbour and next to Al Castello, Carla has a great place - please check it out and have a Great time in Vernazza.

And be sure to walk the section of trail - relatively flat and mostly paved from Manarola to Riomaggiore - only about a mile with a Cafe halfway for a cold beverage.

Brandy, check out Maria Capellini rooms, their in Rick Steves and on Trip Advisor .com We loved the larger one called the Charming Room, no stairs, cool in August when we were there, fantastic people. Trip Advisor comments are dead on, the only downside was we only stayed three nights.

A gentle reminder - Brandy asked her question in July about a trip to be done last September. Please let this post die.

I'm certain there will be more opportunities soon to answer questions about where to stay in Vernazza. I can almost guess what the first responses will be...

For an amazing stay, with breathtaking views and lovely rooms, if you can afford to splurge, you can't go wrong with La Mala. I would elaborate, but there are other discussions of it on this site, but suffice it to say that it's absolutely amazing.
