Where to stay in Venice in October

There are 2 or 3 of us and we're on a fairly tight budget. Going around October 15 - October 17 or 18. Any suggestions? Afterwards we may be heading to the Dolomites. Any suggestions about that? Anyone's help is greatly appreciated!

For two or three people on a tight budget, I will always recommend the budget option of the Hotel Santa Lucia near the train station. In a quiet neighborhood and very convenient. Depending on what you want to spend, you may share bathrooms in the hall. But you get a great rate!

It may not be as cheap as the place listed but we are booked in October at www.capozzovenice.com which is in the Jewish quarter area close to the train station and it has very good reveiws. I am looking forward to it.

We (my wife and I) are going to be in Venice on the 14th, October and leave on the 15th and we found a room - with bathroom - at Hotel Basilea in Venice for $78 euros, made reservation using booking.com... hope this help and see you there, by the way we will be doing the MILAN-VENECIA-FLORENCIA-ROMA circuit between 13th to the 21th October... first time!

I just wanted to add that we have stayed at the Albergo Santa Lucia several times. The rooms are very clean and the owners are always helpful. They have a lovely little garden where you can have breakfast should the weather be warm.

We rented an apartment through Hotel d'Art in Venice during October. It worked for us (no frills but functional and clean) and we were happy with the price. If I went back I would certainly give Hotel d'Art a call to see what they had available (I prefer to travel shoulder season withou reservations).
