We stayed at B&B Cammolia in Siena. Outside the city walls, though just across the street from Porta Cammolia and quite easy access to the town and public transit (To get to the train station). The price was right, though it's hardly your typical B&B. Very plain. Nice, clean rooms, bathrooms in suite. Good value, nothing to wow you though. In Florence we stayed at Viva Hotel Pitti Palace. We payed around 100 euro. The location I loved, as I did the view from breakfast. This hotel resembled the chain US style of hotel the most of anywhere we stayed and the price was good for where it was located and the accomodations. You may also have luck with NYOP bidding at priceline or other sites, maybe in Venice or Florence. I did that for a recent trip to Amsterdam and got a 5* joint for $130 usd.

I am staying at the Albergo Bernini, via della Sapienza 15 in Siena. It is 85E per night.
Am not going to Florence or Venice on this trip.

We liked B&B Ai Tagliapietra in Venice. A few minutes walk from San Marco, I think 90 euros per night. Clean, safe, excellent host, good breakfast, great Italian coffee! In Siena, try Antica Residenza Cicogna. Bellissima!

We were at all three places two years ago. And are returning in May. Venice, we stayed in Santa Lucia, a short walk from the train station, own priv bathroom with your room, $154.00 per night Florence we stayed at Hotel Alba Palace $90 euro a night with breakfast, and very good breakfast, again close walk from train station and private bathroom Siena, we stayed at Hotel Alma Domus $65 euro, you need a cab from train station. This is charming and simple as all our accommodations were. The hotel is run by nuns and the rooms have two single beds and private bathroom and a small balcony, was truly one of my favorite accommodations on our trip. If you take breakfast, go just for the experience of having the nuns serve breakfast. (otherwise its nothing too interesting) Good Luck, have a great time All of the above I was able to find on the internet.
Santa Lucia gave us a 5 or 10% discount for using cash.

I stayed in Albergo Doge in Venice. It wasn't luxurious, but it was good and cheap. No breakfast, but you can go to a cafe easily. I don't remember the exact rates but it should be in your range or cheaper (depends also on what time of year you're going). One place I'd really recommend in Florence is Hotel California. It is a block from the Duomo (so always easy to find and get back to your hotel!), has good rates. It was recently renovated and really nice and comfortable. Has a great breakfast (not the traditional Italian toast and espresso, but has some cereal, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches).

Our family lived in Florence for a year recently. I also studied in Florence as an undergraduate many years ago. I would recommend your considering staying in Fiesole (hill town overlooking Florence) when you come to Florence. There are a number of hotels and bed and breakfasts you can check out on www.tripadvisor.com. You can catch #7 bus from the train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella) in Florence directly to the heart of Fiesole and back. It's about a 20-25 minute trip. This same bus also stops within a block of the Duomo in Florence, so is very convenient to go sight-seeing from Fiesole into Florence. Fiesole is simply beautiful with magnificent vistas, fresher air, fewer tourists, good restaurants and lots of charm. If you want to stay in Florence, I would recommend 3-star Hotel Silla in the Oltrarno. It is reasonably-priced, has a great outdoor terrace for breakfast and is in a quieter neighborhood within walking distance of good restaurants and the major sights of Florence. Buon Viaggio!

We recently returned from a trip to Italy (5-12 March 2011). In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel dei Macchiaiolli (www.hoteldeimacchiaioli.com). It was in a great location (near the Accademia), was very reasonably priced (115 Euro/nt for a double room; included breakfast), clean, quiet, comfortable, served an excellent breakfast, and had a very friendly and very helpful staff. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel, which is located on the second floor of a former palace and has several public rooms (including the breakfast room) with frescoed ceilings; it is listed in Rick's Florence and Tuscany book. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
