Where to stay in Venice

Any suggestions for a good, not too expensive place to stay in Venice? We leave next week. There will be four of us and we all don't mind sharing a room.

We were just there Oct 1 and stayed at Hotel Palazzo Rosa in an apartment for 130 euros for 3 people. We thought that was pretty affordable and it was spacious. But there is just a double bed and sleeping couch so maybe they could bring in a cot. +39 0412 96 0188 [email protected]. In Cannaregio district, boat stop Ca d'Oro, at Campo S.S. Apostoli. We stayed 5 days there--kitchen, living room, tv, bedroom and nice bath. Good luck!

I have stayed twice at Alloggi Alla Scala and been happy both times. If you pay cash, it costs about 85 euros a night. It is such a convenient location- right between the Rialto Bridge, San Marco Square, and the Academia bridge. It is not fancy, but it is nice. There is one room that has windows that open up to the canal and you can watch the gondolas go by. (Warning-it is a noisy room since a lot of power boats head out early in the morning.) I had the room in 2003 and let my sister and her husband have it this trip. Request that room if you are interested. This place is not a hotel, so bring you own soap and shampoo. Also, my sister and her husband had some hot water issues- but I think they just blew a fuse on their hot water heater since it was fixed right away. This place does get mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, but my own experience has only been favorable. Also, there was nothing even close the price in this area.

Locanda al Leon, near San Marco: great location, good price, small but charming and excellent service, too. Been there twice this year...our home away from home in Venezia!

We stayed at Albergo Doni also(in'05) and it was fine, great location. We asked for a third night which we hadn't booked and they put us in a two bedroom apartment in another building for the same price we had paid for the double room. Loved the apt., would be great for four people, but may too late to book.

We are partial to Hotel Mercurio. But this is awfully late to book...

In 2002 our family stayed at the Hotel Rialto, which was at the foot of the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. I don't know what the prices are now but I don't think this place is worth the extra Euros. There are plenty of other very nice places available.

In the summer of 2005 our family of 4 stayed at Albergo Guerrato, (www.pensioneguerrato.it) which is only a few steps from the Rialto Market. We had a huge family room on the top floor "Guerratino" with a lovely modern bathroom. Can't remember what we paid but we thought it was reasonable. It is also very easy to find.

In the summer of 2007 the 4 of us stayed at one of Hotel Campiello's apartments. There are 4 apts, which they call suites on their website, and they are a few steps from the hotel. The apartments were new in 2007 and very nice. We had our breakfast in the hotel. I am sure the hotel is very nice as well. This place is just a few minutes from St. Mark's Square, right off the Riva (waterfront)
(www.hcampiello.it) and is around the corner from the mentioned Albergo Doni.

I would also check out a place called Casa Cosmo (www.casacosmo.com) Have heard very good things about this place and the people who run it.

Good luck and have a great trip!
