Where to stay in Tuscany if driving - quaint towns, preferred

Looking at options since the north is going to have a lot of rain this week....... Would love to visit Siena too, but how hard is this if we have a car.

And most importantly, is the Tuscany region worth visiting in the rain?

Our other thought is taking a train to Nice, France, from Venice and on to Milan from there.

Thanks!

You can park near the stadium in Siena at the Fortezza parking lot. It's not a long walk to the Piazza del Campo.
If you have a car you can stay anywhere, as long as it's not a hotel inside Florence's or Siena's historical centers (both are closed to traffic). I know that the weather is a bummer everywhere this week.

Siena historic center is ringed by parking garages; parking is easy there. If you use one of these garages be sure to note location (the streets you use into the Campo as the place is roughly circular and it would be easy to forget how how you came in and lose track of where your car is. Don't ask how I know this.
