Where to stay in Sorrento?

It is my first time to Italy and we are going to be on our honeymoon. We will be vacationing in August 2010. I need to find a special place to stay. I was originally thinking La Minervetta and or the Hotel La Tonnarella. We would prefer to stay someplace with an amazing view, close to beach and or town, or pool. Any recommendations???

A great hotel with fabulous views - Steve's choices are also quite excellent - hard to be disappointed anywhere In Sorrento.

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori and wow, I still dream about our room. We opted for a sea view, where we had a balcony with table and chairs and unobstructed views of the Bay of Naples, Capri, and Mount Vesuvius. From the hotel it was about a 7 minute walk to the heart of Sorrento.

While a bit on the pricey side, the views were jaw-dropping and very honeymoon-worthy.

La Minervetta is a boutique hotel and probably the most romantic, very popular with honeymooners.

If you want to splurge, the Grand Hotel Exelsior Vittoria can't be beat for location ie cliff top with its own sea bathing platform and on Piazza Tasso but protected from the town bustle by its large gardens. Would tick all your boxes regarding facilities.

Also look at the Bellevue Syrene but no pool. It's just along from the Tramontano which is one of our favourite hotels in Sorrento. But would not pick for honeymoon but then it's not my honeymoon, so what do I know! Both hotels have excellent locations just steps away from the old town streets but quiet and on the route to Marina Grande.

Why not have a look at Sorrento on Google Maps? I would look first at the satellite view to get an overview of the town and hotel locations. Then have a "walk" around with "street view" to look in more detail. You will be able to see all the hotels mentioned so you can judge location for yourself. Street view does not go into the old town itself but you can peep up the various streets as you go around.

The link for Hotel Mignon shows the Hotel Loreley which has been closed since 2007 and shows no sign of re-opening any time soon. I was just in the area in October and asked at the hotel where we were saying and he said there is some kind of dispute regarding the renovation which has not been resolved. The Loreley was my favorite place to stay in Sorrento.

We chose the Ambasciatori and WOW! It was amazing. We had a sea-view room that had a super-huge balcony hanging right over the sea. There were only 2 rooms that had these huge balconys, and I don't know how we got one but we did. The views were amazing, the gardens manicured, the pool sparkling blue and the food was excellent.

Hello Jessica,

I know this place gets mixed reviews on this website, but we stayed at the Settimo Cielo and it was awesome. Our room had a gorgeous view of the bay and excellent customer service, at a very reasonable price. It's a nice walk to the town centre where you can find shops and the train station - although not for the faint of heart, as is the walk down the camping path to the bay for the meal (MUST eat at the Delfino). So it's more for the adventurous types, so it depends on your needs.
