Where to Stay in Rome for Honeymoon?

We will be going to Rome for 4 nights at the end of May - We are in our early 30s, will likely go the AirBnB route and rent a condo/apartment. Not sure yet.

Want to be in a nice, lively area populated with restaurants, bars, nightlife......would love to keep it as Authentically Roman as possible, i.e.m would prefer to stay away from "Planet Hollywood/Hard Rock Cafe/Margaritaville" type tourist traps. Want to be near the action though and within relative walking distance to the sites.

Recommendations? I have zoned in on Trastevere, but would love to hear people's thoughts.

We had an apartment in Trastevere for a week in 2012 and it was a perfect location! The #8 Tram gets you into central Rome (and it's not too far on foot, either), a street market most days is just a few blocks away, the Trastevere train station has direct trains to & from the Airport, a bus gets you from the neighborhood quickly to the Vatican, and it's authentically Roman . . . right down to the un-cleaned up dog droppings on the sidewalks, so watch your step ;-)

Some of the side streets around the Pantheon or Piazza Navona would have what you want.

I love the Prati area, but I'm older. It's certainly mostly locals, but I've not seen much night life there. For my young adult kids I recommend Trastevere or Pantheon areas. In Trastevere I see more young well dressed locals, along with tourists. Lots of excitement restaurants,, bars, etc.

Now that I see that Laurel (Roman Local) recommends Prati, I'd ask her via PM about nightlife! My favorite restaurant in Rome is on Via Candia -- "Piacere Molise." The food is excellent, it's very small, family owned and very little English spoken.

My family and I are staying in an apartment in Trastevere in July, and I was wondering how to get over the Tiber? We plan on walking mostly. Is there a foot bridge? I'm reading a lot of great things about the Trastevere area, so I'm pretty excited.

There are several bridges (we used a couple) crossing the Tiber from Trastevere, used by pedestrians, trams, buses, and cars. Sidewalks along the sides keep you out of traffic. At the north end of the Trastevere neighborhood, head up Monte Gianicolo for great views across to Rome!

Trastevere would be my pick for your needs.. Make sure though that you are in the northern part near the river.

Don't know your budget but www.bonosa31.it is great if you want something reasonably priced. I would be looking to book ASAP as quality places will be filling up fast.
