Where to stay in Rome for a Jubillee year visit?

I'd like to ask for advice on the best neighborhoods to stay in when visiting Rome for the Jubilee in July 2025. I will only be there a short time: arriving late on the evening Sunday, July 7th and departing in the early afternoon on Wednesday, July 9th (flying in and out via FCO).

My goal on the trip is to make the pilgrimage to all four papal basilicas:

Monday

  • San Paolo fuori le Mura
  • San Giovanni in Laterano
  • Santa Maria Maggiore

Tuesday

  • St. Peter's Basilica
  • Vatican Museums

I've been to Rome before, so this is specifically a Jubilee trip. I'm travelling solo. I'd like to stay at a hotel in a neighborhood that:

  • Is conveniently located for getting to the four papal basilicas easily and quickly (and early, before the crowds form). Note: I'm comfortable getting around by walking, biking, or transit.
  • Is safe for tourists. I'm particularly thinking about when I arrive late at night on Sunday (my flight lands at 8:30 p.m.) and I'm taking transit & walking (or taking a taxi) with luggage.
  • Has good restaurant options for breakfast and dinner.

My initial look led to consider the area around Termini for convenience, but I'm not sure how it does on safety and quality of accommodations. My other idea was Trastevere, where I had a very enjoyable stay once many years ago.

Please let me know your suggestions - I'm open to hearing about other neighborhoods besides those two as well. I'd like to also know the rationale for your choice. If you have particular hotel recommendations, happy to hear those too, but I'm primarily concerned with picking a neighborhood.

Thank you!

We stayed here last month, near the Vatican with nearby Metro station - Casa per Ferie Beata Madre Margherita Caiani. Yes it’s a convent ! Nice restaurant across street. Vacancy for your dates, 75 Euro/night if booked thru monasterystays.com, cheaper if you book direct
