Hi,
I have been looking for a apartment to rent in Rome. It is are first time in Rome so I want a convenient location. I am not sure what the best locations are. I was thinking the Piazza Navona area or the Point and Pigna. I really would like us to be able to walk to everything. We are going late June to early July 2017.
Would love some ideas.
Piazza Navona thats a perfect location
you can walk anywhere easy
Another good area is between via Arenula and the Lungotevere (riverside walk area).
Hi, we spent some days at Cavour Forum Suites, at Rione Monti. Nearby is plenty of reastaurants, trattorie and pizzerie. It's a perfect departure place to visit Rome on foot, it's just 500 mt near Colosseum. Metro stop Cavour is just under the B&b. Elena
Piazza Navona is a great location. Have stayed in this area 2x. Also have stayed near the Pantheon & Campo dei Fiori. On our first visit we stayed off Via Nazionale not far from the train station. We much prefer the first 3 locations.
Last time we were at Piazza Farnese, very near campo di fiori. I'd call this a perfect location - we walked pretty much everywhere. Piazza Navona would be just as good.
Basically I'd suggest the pedestrian-friendly historic center - Navona, Pantheon, etc.
Next time I might stay in Trastavere, which is NOT as central but I like the feel of the neighborhood. However, for a first visit you probably want to be more central.
Places that are popular that I don't find as good location-wise is near the Vatican or Prati (yes, you are near the Vatican and there are some good restaurants over there...but you are a long way from other things and I don't like the street plan/traffic over that way)
Near Termini station - convenient as its a transit hub, but not a great atmosphere and farther from the historic core
Near Spanish steps - way to crowded and the feel is more international shopping than "Rome" if that makes any sense
Just my opinion, there are plenty of people who prefer all these locations!
We stayed right next door to the Pantheon, and loved it. It's a 5 minute walk to the Piazza Novana....our favorite Piazza. From your choices, I would choose there. Now, we will stay at the one we were at again because of the 360 degree rooftop bar....cocktails every night with that view.
Apartment rentals for larger parties are money saving, but if you are just a couple, I highly recommend a hotel. Rome is HOT that time of year and even if your apartment has some sort of a/c, what if it isn't working? For the first trip I agree with others that Centro Storico is a great choice for seeing most of the sites on foot. Enjoy!
