Where to stay in Ragusa with a car?

We will be in Ragusa for three nights as part of our trip to Sicily in May. Right now we are talking of renting a car for that portion of our trip. We are traveling with our daughter and son in law so are wanting to rent an apartment as opposed to hotel rooms. What part of the city (Ibla vs Superiore) would it be best to stay?

We are in our early 60s and in pretty good shape, although I may need to hit the stair master to cope well with the 224 steps between Ibla and Superiore. We walk a lot but it is awfully flat where we live.

I am thinking that we would spend one day exploring Ragusa and the other full day we would use the car to explore.

Much of Ragusa Ibla is within a ZTL, with driving limited only to cars with permits. If you find a place there, you'd need to make sure of the arrangements for your car.

Street parking that I saw in Superior was jammed with cars. I wouldn't have liked to rely on street parking. So you'd want an apartment with a car parking space.

Alternatively, Ragusa has a free parking lot at the base of town. Our hosts picked us and our luggage up from there. Or you could Uber from there if it's not within the ZTL or if the driver is allowed to take you there.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say base of town is that nearest to Ibla or Superiore? And how far of a walk would have it been had you not had luggage?

I would like to add that Uber would not be an available option. Uber operates only in some large cities in Italy and only with their Uber Black Service, a luxury black limo service operated by licensed limo companies which is more expensive than regular taxis. So if you need transportation in Ragusa, you will have to rely on regular taxi cabs.
The tel number for the Radio Taxi in Ragusa is below and an English speaking operator is also on duty (save it on your phone)

Thanks. I did a little more looking on booking.com and noticed that some places with beautiful views are in Ragusa Superiore. For those who have stayed in Ragusa, did you stay in Ibla or Superiore and would you do the same again?

It looks like we can find a place to park if we are willing to walk.

From our hotel, at the edge of Ibla nearest one end of the parking lot, it was about a 6-8 minute walk, including a set of concrete/cement type stairs that I recall being the equivalent of maybe 3 flights. We walked up and down but not with luggage.

The parking lot is large, but I'm not sure if it swings around as far as the Superiore side.

Not Ragusa, but when we stayed in Marsala the hotel was within a ZTL. We were allowed 30 minutes to check in and unload the car. If you find a hotel within a ZTL send it a message asking how unloading luggage works.

This is the free Ragusa parking lot:

Google Maps says it's a 32 meter change in elevation from the parking lot to my hotel in Ibla. My friend stayed in Superiore and Google Maps says it's a 110 meter change in elevation to where she stayed. I never walked that route.

Thanks for all the information. Sounds like Ibla might be easier from walking standpoint, although some of the views from Supeiriore places certainly are magnificent.
