This will be our third time to Italy. First time staying in Naples. Are there any specific neighborhoods that are recommended for a solo 40something couple that is similar to the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome?
My husband and I loved Naples, loved this neighborhood, loved this apartment (5 nights in early November): https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1874249?guests=2&adults=2&s=67&unique_share_id=66e0b82c-b2ad-4b0d-8a04-5aa43c89e159
We took a taxi from the airport, but easily walked everywhere else, including to the train station when we left Naples, The apartment is almost next to Sorbillo, has lovely hosts who live on the same floor, has a great view of Vesuvius, and is up quite a few stairs but the hosts use a small lift to haul your luggage up to the apartment. Wifi, AC, dishwasher, washing machine, quiet even though the neighborhood is lively, comfortable bed.
I don't know how to compare the neighborhood to Trastevere --- we usually stay in Testaccio or Monti, but we have walked around Trastevere and eaten there. The heart of Naples is less pretty, less charming, more graffiti, but more varied, more interesting, narrower streets, taller buildings? Didn't feel chaotic or dangerous or tourist-oriented. I hope that helps.
Thank you so much for your reply! Still trying to figure out how many nights we will spend in Naples, and your response makes me think it would be a great idea to extend our time and explore Naples fully. The link you provided didn’t work, and I’d love to check out a good reference for an Airbnb there. Thanks!
Jen
Also, its name on airbnb is "Attico panoramico centro storico" --- it might be available from other rental agencies like Booking .com
See nancys8 post in this thread- I've saved this for a future trip

Looks like that apartment is not available right now --- sorry! But there are other similar ones in the same area!
@Christine Thank you for linking that thread!!! So informative. ;)
I’ve stayed in Naples twice, both times on streets in the Spanish Quarter, near enough to be close to the Toledo Metro station.
Loved the area, and did not feel unsafe.
So much to see and do…..and eat!
