My husband and I will be in Naples for the last few days of our trip to Italy next month and we are not sure where to stay. We have heard that there a some areas that are not very safe for tourist. Also on the last day we will be leaving for the airport at about 4am to catch our 6:45am flight. Any suggestions on how to get to the airport at such an early hour.
Have your hotel arrange a taxi for you. It is a set price around 20 euros to the airport, which is only about a 15 minute ride.
I loved Hotel Piazza Bellini, which was convenient to the archaeological museum.
We stayed in the Vomero neighborhood which was very safe and on a metro line. There are several recommended b&bs there. We stayed in an Airbnb apartment, which tends to be booked up.
I'll second that! Hotel Piazza Bellini was really nice! Great location! Good breakfast and rooms/bathroom were good sized.
Last December I stayed at the Hotel Art Resort on the third floor of the Galleria Umberto. Good sized rooms, nice breakfast, unique location. The breakfast & wine room overlooks the interior of 5he Galleria. The area around the Galleria is quite tourist friendly and there are very good restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
Last October we had a 6.30 a.m. flight out of NAP so spent our last day in Naples sightseeing and that night at the Hotel Art Resort in the Galleria Umberto. It was a great location right off Via Toledo and across the st. from the Teatro Di San Carlo. Nearby is the Gran Caffe Gambrinus, the Royal Palace and Castel Nuovo. The Castel dell'Ovo is a short walk away with a number of restaurants. We had to leave too early to have breakfast. The hotel arranged our taxi the night before for us. The front desk is manned 24 hrs. Would stay here again.
Michelle,
You could also have a look at Hotel Chiaia, which is in a really nice area and only a short walk from the fantastic Gran Caffè Gambrinus.
I'll be on the Southern Italy tour ending in Naples in mid-October, and the tour hotel there is the Gran Hotel Oriente. I've planned on staying an extra night because we have opera tickets. The location doesn't look that convenient for the opera, but it seemed a nuisance to move for one night. Anyone have any information on that hotel?
