Where to stay in Naples?

Hello.
We, are 2 couples, will be traveling in Italy in September. We are flying home from Naples. The original plan was to stay 2 nights in Positano. But our flight @ 11:45 in the morning and we afraid to be late because of a predictable conditions on the road (we are driving rental car). So we decided to stay last night in Naples. We will arrive in early afternoon and want to explore city and have nice farewell dinner somewhere in historic center, but safe area. Any suggestion on good hotels? Thank you

only,

You might have a look at THIS hotel. It's located in a great area, and the rooms are very comfortable and the staff are fantastic. As there will be four of you travelling, I'd suggest pre-arranging transport to the airport the day before you'll be travelling. The staff will be able to suggest the best option.

Thank you very much for your respond. I made reservation in those hotels. But it still unclear to me which area would be better for sightseeing, dinner and after dinner stroke and coffee. Please advice.

I have family near Napoli and they always advise me to lodge around Piazza del Plebiscito, which is in that southern tip really near the water, and also the Quartiere Chiaia which is a tad west of Plebiscito. I don't always do what they say tho.
In December 2013 I lodged at Quartiere Sanita', which is north Napoli near subway stops Piazza Cavour and west of that, the Museo stop. I like living with the local color, but i like to move around too. Next time i will try lodging around some of the famous Mercatini streets.
Speaking of Mercatini, what about walking thru Spaccanapoli. That's what I did every evening, walked thru as many Mercatini streets as I could. It is so much F U N! That's where the action is. Food, people, music, dance, merchants, homemade arts and crafts, terrific souvenirs. Most Unique experience. The Mercatini streets really come alive in the evening, but nice to visit in the day too.
I am alone too, but I wore dark colors, had No visible purse, wore a neck wallet and hid the ribbons with a dark scarf around my neck.
Get a map of Napoli, RS sells good maps, and Google Mercatini Streets Napoli and Spaccanapoli, and you will see what I mean.
Even now, Napoli is so addicting, that I crave returning there and walking with the city. There is No place like Napoli. I got homesick for it well before I left.
