Coming to Puglia for first time in late April. As part of our trip, we’re planning to use Lecce as a base for three days and, in addition to visiting the old city, will use our rental car to explore other area towns as well. Do you think we should stay inside the old city or outside? If outside, we’d appreciate hotel suggestions (which would still enable us to easily walk into and enjoy the old city area.). Thank you.
I stayed at the Patria Palace in 2018, It's a very nice hotel but I'm not sure about parking.
Thanks! Will check it out.
We stayed at the Arryvo Hotel last fall. It is right on the town wall and across the street is a parking lot but the backdoor exit inside the wall lets you walk to the Piazza Duomo in 2-3 minutes. The room was clean and has open shelving which we liked since all our stuff was quickly reached. They have their own restaurant so breakfast is cooked to order. The front desk staff speak English and were both friendly & helpful.
We were a bit concerned because it has a dance floor on the 1st level and seems to target a younger crowd with its website but when we were there it was quiet. Maybe it would be different in an April stay though. If we're ever back in the region we would stay here again.
Will check it out, tho we definitely want a quiet room. I think when I was recently looking at photos of the rooms there, it seemed like they didn’t have bedside lamps for reading. (I think it was that hotel.)

We stayed just outside the old city and parked our rental on the street. As a busy city, it took some patience to find a spot but not insane. Our very agreeable apartment was on Via Cavour called Chez Moi – Charme Apartment on Air BnB, and one can easily walk to everything.
Thanks Valadelphia and Mike. Re AirBnB.. we really just want a room in hotel or B&B.
The very nice host of the apartment I mentioned also operates a well-regarded B&B at the same address: Charme B&B Lecce
I will look into it. Thanks!
