any hotel suggetions for
Genova thx!
Karen: Can you give us an idea of how long you are going to be in Genova, what you want to see there, will you be visiting relatives by chance, is it a business trip, how much do you want to spend, etc.? Need to know more!
unfortunately only overnite. We get in at noon on Friday and leave on a crusie on Sat at 5 pm so not much time. were hoping to get to 5T but just can't fit it in without a lot of extra travelling and worrying about getting back to Genova on time.
Guess something that would be convenient for getting around since we won't have a car. Thanks!
should mention that we don't mind spending money for good accommodations. We like clean, comfortable, interesting places without a lot of stairs!!!! We're not incapacitated thank God but a lot of stairs plays havoc with my husband's knees.
If you're looking for an Old World splurge for just a night or two, we stayed at Palazzo Cicala (Piazza San Lorenzo 16; http://www.palazzocicala.it; [email protected]; 39-010-251-8824) a few years ago. It's an elegantly decaying old palazzo with enormous rooms and a grand past, right across from the cathedral, easy walking distance everywhere (medieval lanes, harborfront, restaurants, etc). We paid almost 200 Euros for our one night, but figured we had only one night in Genova...ordinarily we pay half that for our lodging. It's a one-of-a-kind place, merging historical Genoa with hip, modern decor. GREAT location! PS: Just saw you're in town for one night, like us. HIGHLY recommend this place!
Wow. After checking out Gio's recommendation online, I don't think my suggestion can compete. Several years ago I stayed at the Best Western City Hotel in downtown area. It was a clean, comfortable business hotel with an elevator. Nothing really interesting about it but it is close to Piazza Ferrari and the Cannetto Lungo area which is interesting. There are areas of Genoa that you'll want to steer clear of at night so ask your concierge about that.
