We are going to Italy in early November and need advise on which of the 5 towns I should stay in.We will have a car that we can leave parked.I read the the buses stop running at 7pm and the cafes are closed in the winter.Manarola has been one of my choices.Volestra is beautiful but is way up in the hills and bus stops at 7pm.Any advise greatly appreciated.

Because we had a car when we were there (in 2004) we chose Monterosso. It is the easiest of the five towns to access with a car. We stayed at Villa Steno which sits at the top of town and you can easily drive right to it- the hotel even has a parking lot. It was very convenient and we used the trains and trails to tour the other towns. Have fun!
With a car to park, i agree that Monerosso is your best spot.
I second the recommendation on the Villa Steno. It's a great place and the family that runs it is really nice. The views are fabulous and there is a little more going on at night than in the other towns - I also think more things stay open out of season in Monterosso.
